Shell Ridge Beginner Ride

Updated: Jun 25, 2020

5 miles distance, 635 ft climbing

This ride is appropriate for first time mountain bikers. It has some modest climbing but much less than almost everything else in the area. The trails are wide fire roads with no technical challenges. If the full ride is too much for a new rider you can exit after the first loop at the same place you entered.

The views are nice throughout.

The trails on this route have lots of mountain bikers, walkers and dog walkers. Please keep your speed under control.

The route as shown starts at the Rockspring Place trailhead. There is lots of street parking. You could also start the loop at Indian Valley School where there is also lots of on street parking. From Rockspring Place go a short distance to left turn on Briones-Mt Diablo Trail. Continue on Briones-Mt Diablo Trail past Indian Valley School, stay right at entrance sign to stay on the trail. Trail will end on a paved road. Cross the road to Corral Springs Trail. Continue to Ginder Gap trail where you turn left. In a short distance this will rejoin Briones-Mt Diablo Trail. Turn left and retrace your steps then keep going South on Briones-Mt Diablo Trail until you reach the large map sign at the Borges Ranch turnoff. Turn around an retrace your steps to Rocksprings Pl.
