SRVMTB Club

Our team is open to middle and high school students in the San Ramon Valley area. While we are hosted by San Ramon Valley High School, riders from schools without a NorCal MTB team are welcome to join us.

If your school already has a NorCal MTB team, you’ll want to connect with them directly. Students at or planning to attend Monte Vista High School should reach out to the Monte Vista MTB Team.Students living north of the San Ramon Valley School District can join the Contra Costa Composite MTB Team.

Registration Dates

  • Returning Riders: Opens October 1. Link will be emailed.
  • New Riders: Opens October 8. Link will be posted on the right side of this page and emailed to those who submitted an Interest Form.

Why Join?

Mountain biking is a lifelong sport for all skill levels—no tryouts, no cuts, everyone’s welcome! Our coaches prioritize safety, skills, and stoke, and you’ll make plenty of new riding buddies along the way.

Where

Most practices meet at Rolling Hills Community Church, giving riders easy access to Mount Diablo State Park, Shell Ridge Open Space, and Diablo Foothills Regional Park.

When

The team practices after school on Wednesdays and Fridays, ending at dusk, with a longer ride on Sunday afternoons.

Races (optional)

Race weekends are a celebration of riding and community! Families, coaches, and teammates pack the pit zone with energy—cheering loudly, sharing food, and making memories that last a lifetime.

  • 5 races: February–May, ending with NorCal Championships
  • Race days: Saturdays or Sundays
  • Region: East Bay & Central
  • Categories: 6th–8th grade, Freshman, Sophomore, JV2, JV1, Varsity
  • Courses: 5-mile laps, 1–5 laps depending on category

Tailored Ride Groups

After the first few team rides, coaches create ride groups based on fitness, skill level, and attitude. The distance, difficulty, and pace of each ride are tailored to the group. Riders may move between groups throughout the season as they progress. We typically have 5–6 middle school groups and 5–6 high school groups.

Costs

$300 Team Dues – Dues cover rider registration, team equipment, and insurance, as well as food and drinks for our race pit zone. They also help support time trials, summit rides, GRiT events, team T-shirt, and more!

$110 Annual Rider Fees – This includes the $60 NorCal League fee and the $50 NICA fee. Scholarships are available.

$50 Race Entry Fees - payable to the NorCal League per race.

What You’ll Need to Start

A Bike – We recommend a hardtail (front suspension only) bike intended for cross-country or trail use with. No ebikes or motorized bikes for student riders.

  • Disc brakes
  • 27.5" or 29" wheels (26" is OK)
  • Reliable components, e.g. SRAM or Shimano
  • 100mm to 130mm of suspension travel
  • Flat or clip-in (aka clipless) pedals
  • No more than 30lbs weight

Recreational, hybrid, downhill, and free-ride bikes are not suitable for riding with our team. Please don’t buy a bike at a department store! They are heavy and do not stand up to cross-country riding.

What to Wear – A bike-specific helmet (no skate helmets), non-cotton jersey, gloves, protective eyewear, and padded bike shorts.

What to Bring on Every Ride – Water bottle or hydration pack, snack, an extra clothing layer, pump, multi-tool, and spare tube.

Showing up unprepared can cut a ride short and even create safety risks—so always come ready to ride!

Each rider must complete the SRVMTB Fit & Safety Check with a certified bike mechanic and submit it to any SRVMTB coach on the first day of practice. This ensures every bike is safe, properly fitted, and ready to ride.
